This is a genuine Medalta Potteries Ltd. Stoneware 5 Gal. Crock made in Medicine Hat, Alberta . I believe that it was made some time between 1935 and 1950. Glazing is in excellent condition. No chips or cracks. [Inside of bottom shows a faint mini-hairline scratch in the glazed surface only.] The crock is watertight. Medalta Logo and sizing paint under glaze is crisp and complete. [See pics.] Crock measures 13 3/16" in diameter and 14 1/4" high. [33 1/2 cm x 35 1/2 cm]. Crocks from this world famous pottery are becoming very hard to find in this size and condition. Use this taupe coloured crock as a decoration or primitive accessory anywhere in the house or camp. A great towel holder in the bathroom. An umbrella and cane holder in the foyer.In the kitchen use it to hold utensils or bulk foods. Makes a great planter for large indoor plants, small trees or bonsai or out on the deck.I've seen it used as storage for kids toys. Or of course, you can use it to make sauerkraut.!
